  Update on cancer-causing ingredients found in organic skin care products

   

  You may remember, in the news last year, about the organic skin care and body care products that were found to have the cancer-causing chemical 1,4-dioxane and the law suit brought against the companies that refused to change their ingredients.

  A follow-up study was done and it showed improved results. However, it also tested some conventional products that were not tested in the original study and found the 1,4-dioxane contaminant present in some of these products.

  What’s important to note is that there are now several different natural and organic standards for skin care and body care products, where in the not so distant past, there were essentially none. Not all of these standards are in agreement about what ingredients should be allowed in skin care products labeled as organic. Many of these standards were written to accommodate companies that were interested in having an organic label without going the distance to provide truly healthy products with only safe and healthy organic ingredients.

  The only really safe way to be sure you’re getting truly organic skin care and personal care products is to make sure that the organic label is a true organic label. That would be the USDA Certified Organic label. Any other skin care product label that says certified organic may contain ingredients that are synthetic and derived from petroleum. If you buy a product that does not have the USDA Certified organic label, you must read every ingredient on the ingredients list.

  What you need to know about certified organic skin care

   

  If you read the last post, you already have an idea why you should use certified organic skin care.

   

  Let’s take a closer look at the benefits…

   

  The certified organic ingredients in natural skin care products are safer and healthier for you because they are grown without

  Certified organic plants are grown in soil that is richer and has more nutrients. They are processed without harsh chemicals and toxic solvents. The final certified organic ingredients used in the natural skin care products are richer in nutrients than those commercially grown and processed and those that are synthetically derived.

   

  Remember, your skin is the largest organ in your body. It absorbs a great deal of what you put on it. Some of the ingredients actually get into your bloodstream. You are in fact feeding your skin with every skin care product you put on it, whether natural, certified organic or synthetic.

   

  It’s important to make sure that the ingredients in the skin care products you use on your body are also substances you want inside your body and circulating in your bloodstream. All your organic and natural skin care products should be nourishing to your skin and body too.

   

  In addition, choosing certified organic natural skin care products is not only good for you, it’s also beneficial for the soil and the environment as well.

  What are the best natural skin care brands?

   

  100% natural skin care products that are also organic are always your best option. If your choice is also a certified organic skin care product that’s the best. Be sure the product is certified to the National Organic Program (NOP) standards, not OASIS or Ecocert, both of which are not true organic standards. This will assure you that you are getting a top quality, healthy product.

   

  Now, there are some organic natural skin care products that, even though they are not certified, are still recommended as a top choice. That you can only know by learning all you can about the company and the manufacturer.  

    

  Two of my favorite organic natural skin care product lines I’ll mention here. I have thoroughly investigated both of these companies and the quality of the products and their ingredients are unsurpassable.
